Azerbaijani climbers conquer Mt. Abu Ali ibn Sin

Ismail Askerov and Rufat Gajiyev spent two week to reach the peak of Mt. Abu Ali ibn Sin (formerly named after Lenin), the Azerbaijani Alpinism Federation reports.

The expedition was organized by the Azerbaijani Ministry for Youth and Sports and the Alpinism Federation, supported by the Heydar Aliyev Fund, dedicated to the founder of the Karabakh Khanate Panakh Khan.

Rauf Kyazymov was also part of the expedition that started in Baku in early July, but he had to quit it at the very start.

The peak was to be reached at 6 am on July 18. But bad weather conditions postponed the process until 4 pm. The climbers returned to the base camp at the height of 3800 meters in the evening.

Askerov will go to Baku to decide whether to climb the Victory Peak. Gojayev will visit Tajikistan after 2-3 days of rest to climb the Korzhenevskaya Peak (7105 m) and the Peak of Ismail Samoni (former Peak of Communism (7495 m).

The coach of the national alpinism team Nikolai Totmyanin will take part in the competition to climb the Peak of Lenin on August 29 and then the Korzhenevskaya Peak and the Peak of Ismail Samoni.
