New ski resort to open in Georgia

Mestia will acquire the status of a ski resort this season, Business
Georgia reports.

According to the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, in the
current year Mestia will join the list of traditional ski resorts,
which usually consists of Bakuriani and Gudauri.
According to the governor of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, Zaza
Gorozia, Mestia Airport will start operating in early December. The
airport will function mainly for tourists and domestic flights,
because due to the local landscape the airport cannot handle large
aircraft.

At the request of a member of the council of Mestia, Gochi Gvarliani,
the first winter tourist season in Mestia will open in the middle of
December.
