One in every hundred people is a refugee

Press conference “Global disasters 2012: one in every hundred people in the world is a forced refugee”. Today more than 73 million people in the world are forced migrants. That is one in every hundred resident of the planet. They left their homes because of military conflicts, political disturbances, violence and disasters, climate change or implementation of infrastructural projects. This number is growing year by year. The majority of migrants are in a  situation of ongoing resettlement or have been forced to leave their homes forever. These data are reported by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
