The failure of the conference on Syria will be a reason for continuation of violence

The Supreme Council of Kurds of Syria plans to take part in the conference Geneva-2 on the settlement of the situation in Syria. The official representative of the organization Ahmed Suleiman stated this on June 5th. “We want Geneva-2 to succeed,” he said at the press conference in RIA Novosti. According to Suleiman, the international conference on Syria “is a great opportunity to settle all the problems of not only Syria, but also of the whole region.”

“A failure of the conference Geneva-2 will be an additional reason for continuation of violence in Syria,” Suleiman said. He stated that representatives of the Supreme Council of Kurds will go to the conference, and a separate delegation will represent Kurds. Ahmed Suleiman also said that Syrian Kurds don’t intend to pose a question on independence because they are “a part of the Syrian society and nation.”

During the visit to Russia, representatives of the Supreme Council of Kurds of Syria met the deputy foreign minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov. “The talks focused on the situation in Syria and the necessity to find a solution which would stop bloodshed,” Suleiman noted.

In early May the head of the Ministry for International Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov and the State Secretary of the USA John Kerry initiated continuation of the talks in Geneva on Syria, which took place on June 30th, 2012.
