Murder in Pugachevo had no ethnic overtones

The head of the Presidential Council on Human Rights, Mikhail Fedotov, commented on the tense situation in the last few days in the town of Pugachevo.

On Saturday, July 6, in the town of Pugachevo in the Saratov region, a 20-year-old local resident Ruslan Marzhanov, a former paratrooper, and 16-year-old teenagers had a quarrel, which escalated into a fight. As a result, the senior party in the conflict died. Ethnic unrest swept the town. On Tuesday, July 9, the head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov said that those responsible for the murder of 20-year-old resident of Pugachevo should be punished, saying that, obviously, the conflict between the young people came from domestic violence. Representatives of the Chechen diaspora had taken some of its young people away from Pugachevo, the presidential envoy to the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich reported at a meeting on the ground. In addition, there is a restriction on the sale of alcohol in the town. The Federal Migration Service is checking the legality of visitors’ stay there.
