Vitaly Naumkin: "The question of G20 extension is unavoidable"

Today the G20 summit opens in St. Petersburg. Problems of the world economy, creating jobs, and encouragement of investments will be discussed there, including the situation in Syria within bilateral meetings. Russian President Putin is going to meet the leaders of Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, India, the UK, Singapore, Turkey, the OEC, the WTO, and the World Bank. Vitaly Naumkin, the head of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the RAS, told Vestnik Kavkaza about prospects of the summit.

Naumkin commented on how G20 members take into account the views of all central powers in global politics, and whether the format has become too narrow for today's multipolar world. Naumkin outlined Russia's place in the global economy and talked about which claims Russian can reasonably make in addition to the primary sector already claimed by Russia, and what steps in the development of alternative industries are currently being taken. He also outlined the role of the G20 in ensuring security in the world and the situation in the Middle East.
