Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Slutsky commented on the issues of cooperation between Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union, and its activities in the Customs Union, as well as on the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union, and the plans of the State Duma Committee for CIS, the Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots. Leonid Slutsky said that the committee regularly talks about the creation of the Eurasian Union, which in turn resulted in the creation of a forum. It's been two forums, and a third is expected in November, the main theme of the forum will be the economy. The Chairman of the Committee reported that the Eurasian integration is its priority.
Slutsky told commented on the prospects of Azerbaijan's participation in the Eurasian integration processes. He believes the republic is self-sufficient, and at the moment in only closely monitoring te Russian activities in the post-Soviet space. The Azerbaijani leadership like no other country has seen sigs of expansion in the Eastern Partnership project of the EU. "Azerbaijan treats its sovereignty very thoughtfully. It can be expected that in the future Azerbaijan will join the Eurasian project. Relations with Russia are very close, and we are always able to "compare notes" in order to keep up," the politician said.
