The Maly Theater has hosted the Azerbaijan State Russian Drama Theatre with great success. The Baku actors brought to Moscow two landmark performances: the play "Monsieur Jordan, the Scientific Botanist, and Dervish Mastalishah, the Famous Magician", based on the play by Mirza Fatali Akhundzade directed by People's Artist of Azerbaijan Alexander Sharovskiy, and "Seven Beauties" by Nizami Ganjavi directed by Jonas Vaitkus.
Before the performance, the Counsellor of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia for Humanitarian Affairs Nigar Ahundova welcomed all present and thanked the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the leadership of the Maly Theatre.
In collaboration with the team of "Russian Drama", Jonas Vaitkus surprised the audience with his modern and unusual view of the philosophy of the "Seven Beauties" by Nizami Ganjavi . In one play he combined Nizami's monologue performed by honoured artist of Azerbaijan Fuad Osmanov, flowing smoothly into theatrical masks, shadow theater, dervish dances, a puppet theater and, finally, great actors, among them - leading actor Murad Mammadov and Maksud Mamedov playing the role of the Vizier. Also, the small but brilliant role of the shepherd, played by Murad Egizarov and honoured artist of Azerbaijan Naina Ibragimova, could not remain unnoticed.
