The head of the Russian Association of Tourism operators, Maya Lomidze, spoke about the results of the summer season. This summer, the situation was the most unstable in the last eight years: the operators constantly had to change the prices, introduce or cancel flights, the latter, however, more often.
According to experts, Russians are trying to cut expenses and buying the cheapest tours at the last moment or not buying them at all. The average price of a tour this summer was 26,000 rubles for a week of vacations in a non-luxurious 3-4 star hotel. To compare, in 2012 the average Russian spent 29,000 rubles on vacations, the average Muscovite spent 38,000 rubles.
"Tourists are not certain about tomorrow," Maya Lomidze admitted.
The most remarkable decline was recorded in Croatia, which is connected also to the introduction of the visa regime. This year half the number of Russians spent their vacations in Croatia compared to 2012. The situation with tourism on Cyprus is also not better.
As for Egypt, in the early summer the number of tourists there increased but then dropped, so that many flights had to be cancelled.
The stream of tourists to Turkey, Greece and Spain grew by 20%.
