Expert in the field of inter-ethnic relations Sultan Khamzaev at a press conference on the national holiday of the Day of National Unity spoke about the day of the celebration - November 4 – and the perception of this festival among the population.
November 4 is the Russian state holiday - the Day of National Unity. In many cities, museums opened their doors for free to guests, in the squares there were parades in honor of the year of 1612 and the militia of Minin and Pozharsky, who saved Russia from the intervention.
In our country, the Day of National Unity has been celebrated only for 8 years, but the tradition is much older. For the Orthodox people, November 4 is theDay of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God — a great religious holiday. With the Icon of the Mother of God in 1612, the militia of Minin and Pozharsky liberated Moscow from the invaders. Historians believe that this victory marked the end of the Time of Troubles.
But for many people, however, November 4 is a day of political action. The Nationalists held the so-called "Russian March" in Lublino. The organizers spoke about 15,000 members. According to the police, the event was attended by almost half as many people.
Sultan Khamzaev spoke about the threat of rising xenophobia and nationalism in society and about provocations around the issue of migration and migrants.
