E. Kuzmina: "First we have to build a functioning economic union"

During a round-table discussion dedicated to the establishment of the Eurasian Union, the head of the department for the economic development of post-Soviet countries in the Center for Post-Soviet Studies at the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Elena Kuzmina, said that in her opinion if the leaders of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will remain in their offices then the Eurasian Union will be created, but its quality will remain in question. On October 24, at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan agreed to sign an agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union in May 2014. According to the document, the Union may begin its work on January 1, 2015.
