Dmitry Piskulov: "The authorities will not leave the ruble in the lurch"

The chairman of the Board of the National Currency Organization, Dmitry Piskulov, described the behaviour of the Russian currency and talked about the policy that the Central Bank should conduct in this situation.

 

On 27 January 2014 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation pushed the boundaries of the currency corridor by 15 kopecks for the first time since October 2011. The CB has had to push the boundaries of the floating corridor of the currency basket by 15 kopecks instead of the usual 5 kopecks because of the trading which took place on January 27. In the course of one day the currency basket on the Moscow Stock Exchange increased by 33 kopecks and amounted to 40.64 rubles, exceeding the upper limit of the floating currency corridor by 14 kopecks.
