Sergei Mikheyev: “Constitutional reform could save Ukraine”

Sergei Mikheyev, Director General of the Caspian Cooperation Institute, speaks about the position of Victor Yanukovych in the political arena of Ukraine and constitutional reform, which could help the country to overcome the crisis. The protests in Ukraine, which began as peaceful protests at the end of November 2013 in response to the suspension of the signing of an association agreement with the EU, have become a violent confrontation in which extremists and nationalists with their own political goals are fighting alongside the opposition forces. The opposition continues to demand further concessions from the government and claims that the steps already taken are insufficient, thus encouraging the protesters to radicalize the protest and establish anarchy and disorder. Europe and the U.S., while urging Ukrainians to conduct dialogue and reach a peaceful resolution of the conflict in their speeches, in fact facilitate the further spread of chaos in the country, which they would have never allowed in their own countries and which they would have prevented by means very different from the "democratic" methods they expect from the Ukrainian authorities.
