Political analyst Sergei Mikheyev commented on the current situation in Ukraine. The culmination of the nearly three-month conflict between tge government and the opposition was the dismissal of the legitimately-elected president of Ukraine, with the transition of his powers to the newly-appointed Speaker of Parliament from the faction "Fatherland", who immediately initiated a resolution on a return to the country's constitution amended in 2004, the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and scheduling of early presidential elections for May 25. At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada annulled the law "On the Principles of State Language Policy", which gave Russian and other languages in Ukraine regional status, threatened to ban the broadcasting of a certain category of TV channels, including Russian and Belarusian television, questioned the authority of objectionable deputies and began to build new government actively.
