Karl-Georg Wellmann: Ukrainian pipes are meaningless without Russian gas

Bundestag deputy from the CDU and member of the Bundestag foreign policy committee and of the German-Russian parliamentary group, Karl-Georg Wellmann, and the scientific director of the German-Russian forum, advisor to the president of the German-Russian trade chamber and member of the consulting council of the international "Valdai" club, Alexander Rahr, spoke about the problem of gas supply to Ukraine and Europe and the possibility of a consortium of Russia, Ukraine and the EU for the modernization of Ukrainian gas pipelines. Europe is interested in guaranteed and constant supplies of gas from Russia via Ukraine, but for this to happen the gas pipelines need to be in good technical condition.  The question of constant gas transit was one of the topics in the Russian president's address to the heads of European states, published on April 10.
