Sergei Mikheyev, a political scientist, comments on recent steps made by NATO and stresses that the main goal of the USA is to tie Europe to itself. At the end of last week, Defense Ministers of NATO countries responded to a "potential threat from Russia" by reinforcing the presence of NATO in Eastern Europe. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO would increase its presence from 13 to 30 thousand people. Command centers will be created in six NATO countries - Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria and Romania. At the same time, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified an agreement on the establishment of a Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian team which will participate in NATO operations. These measures coincided with the visit of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to Kiev.
