On Sunday in Baku a nationwide procession was held on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the tragic events in Khojaly. On the streets of the capital of Azerbaijan more than 60 thousand people marched, and President Ilham Aliyev led a column. Together with all the demonstrators, he walked a few kilometers before reaching the monument to the victims of the Khojaly events and laid a wreath at the foot of the monument, the channel Russia-24 reports. The tragedy occurred during the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia over control of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding territories. On the night of February 26, 1992, as a result of combat clashes, more than six hundred civilians were killed in Khojaly. Azerbaijan seeks to recognize those events as genocide.
