According to the results of a referendum held in Crimea on March 16 last year, 96.77% of voters were in favor of the annexation of Crimea by Russia. An agreement was signed on March 18 and on March 21 the Russian Federation was joined by two new subjects: the republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol. These two dates marked a new history of the Russian Crimea.
