Der Spiegel published an article by Sebastian Fischer devoted to the Snowden case and the cancellation of US president Barack Obama's meeting with Vladimir Putin. The article was hreadlined "Die neuen Kalten Krieger" ("The New Cold Wars").
"Barack Obama has canceled his planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. (...) Thus the US president evoked the memory of the Cold War," the article begins.
According to the author, the US president's decision to travel to Stockholm instead of Moscow has created an atmosphere of a "freezing room."
The Russian party has received this strike as it was expected to - as a personal insult to President Putin. "Putin, for whom a meeting with Obama was a matter of prestige, received a slap in the face," Fischer writes.
