United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly recommended Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt to start negotiations and find mutually acceptable ways out of the diplomatic crisis in the Persian Gulf. Qatar's Ambassador to Russia Fahad Mohamed Abdullah Al Attiyah explained that the emir had issued an appeal on July 21 stating that Qatar had called for dialogue from the very beginning.
On June 5, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt have broken diplomatic diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing the country of supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs, it was followed by economic sanctions and a transport blockade. Later, these countries have sent a 13-point list of demands, Qatar deemed them not actionable and called on to review them.
"Qatari emir said that claims against Qatar are not actionable and they will not be fulfilled. Qatar does not support terrorism. Qatar is ready to solve all issues through dialogue with its Gulf neighbors with the mediation of Kuwait," the ambassador said.
As for Russian-Qatari relations, according to him, they have been developing very effectively since January 2016, when the emir of Qatar visited the Russian Federation and met with President Putin: "Then various aspects of our relations were discussed, including economic, political, cultural, military, educational, etc. A number of agreements have been signed, a number of projects have been scheduled for signing. Qatar supports Russia's efforts both in Geneva and Astana, which intended to support the rights of the Syrian people. I hope that these efforts will bear fruit in the near future. "
