Lebanese demand return of their premiere

Saad Hariri

The situation in Lebanon complicated two weeks ago when Prime Minister Saad Hariri, announced his resignation in a televised address from Riyadh, motivating his decision "by the intervention of Iran and his accomplices, Hezbollah in the internal affairs of Lebanon." Hariri noted that his life was in danger. President of Lebanon Michel Aoun has not yet accepted the resignation of the prime minister. There is a version that Hariri is under the pressure of the Saudi authorities, does not have freedom of movement and is kept under house arrest in Saudi Arabia.

Now the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of Lebanon, Gebran Bassil, is making a tour of the European countries in connection with the resignation of the prime minister. At a press conference in Moscow, he said: "This concerns the measures of stability in the world. Therefore, we are now trying to find a solution to this problem, which threatens the sovereignty of Lebanon and testifies to a departure from the positive course that began after the election of President Michel Aun. This is an external interference in the internal affairs of Lebanon and in our democratic life, which is unacceptable in the international community. This is a dangerous precedent ... Russia stands up to terrorism at a high price, but with positive results. For us, the main thing is the return of Prime Minister Saad Hariri to Lebanon without any conditions and without any restrictions in his freedom so that he can make a decision in Beirut. Then Lebanese will make a decision based on the principles of freedom. "

Yesterday in Moscow, Gebran Bassil was received by the head of the Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, but the Smolensk Square did not announce its position according to Hariri. The message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads only that Bassil told Lavrov about the efforts of the leadership of the Lebanese Republic aimed at preserving the unity of the Lebanese society, internal political stability, preventing the transformation of Lebanon into a battlefield for the external forces. Lavrov expressed support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Lebanon, including the settlement of all issues on the Lebanese agenda by Lebanese themselves, taking into account the interests of all leading political forces and confessional groups of the population. "External interference in the country's sovereign affairs, which threatens to weaken the existing domestic political balance, should be ruled out," Lavrov said. "I have no doubt that even at this stage Lebanese will be able to agree on a solution that would meet the highest interests of maintaining stability, civil peace and security in Lebanon and the region as a whole."
