Moscow hosts mini-football tournament ‘Heydar Aliyev Cup’

On May 30, in Moscow, within the framework of the IV Universiade of the Azerbaijan Youth Association of Russia (AYOR), an annual mini-football tournament for the Heydar Aliyev Cup was held among students studying at Moscow universities. The tournament, organized by AYOR, was held on the football fields of the Children and Youth Sports School of the CSKA Professional Football Club.

"The football championship annually becomes the most anticipated event for Azerbaijani students. The chairman of the Azerbaijan Youth Association of Russia, Leyla Aliyeva, pays special attention to sports education and a health promotion among young people. Therefore, today's championship was organised,” the executive secretary of AYOR, Jeyhun Huseynov said.

14 teams participated in the football tournament. "A very interesting football tournament, many peculiar teams. Bright matches are taking place. I wish all the guys good luck - may the strongest win!" a RUDN University student, athlete Dashgyn Abuzarov said.

"The guys have a very good mood, everyone wants to win, and most importantly, to win this tournament and take the cup to their university," the chairman of the First Moscow State Medical University, Simara Mammadova said.

The tournament is dedicated to the Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan. "Football is a sport that unites people. One of today's goals was to unite Azerbaijani youth. I think that the common national friendship of all the peoples of the Russian Federation has won. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on this holiday and wish further success and prosperity to both the Russian Federation and the Azerbaijani people, all of Azerbaijan,” the rector of the Moscow State University of Humanities and Economics, Vagif Bayramov said.

In a bitter struggle, the champion of the tournament became the team of the Moscow State University of Humanities and Economics. The second place was taken by the team of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University. The athletes from MGIMO became the bronze medalists of the competition.
