2nd Belt and Road Forum opens in Beijing

The second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation has opened in Beijing today.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the forum will be attended by some 5,000 participants from  more than 150 countries and 90 international organisations, including from the IMF and the UN. Representatives of the United States and North Korea will participate in the upcoming forum.

On April 26-27, Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a working visit to Beijing to take part in events of the forum. He will also hold talks with President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping to discuss the further development of comprehensive Russian-Chinese partnership and strategic cooperation, as well as topical regional and international matters. In addition, Putin will hold a number of bilateral meetings with leaders of the states taking part in the forum.

The forum is to be held on April 25-27. On April 25, 12 forums and conferences dedicated to various topics will be held. On April 26, there will be a solemn opening ceremony and high-level meetings, while on April 27, the leaders will attend a plenary session.

The objective of the plan is to boost cooperation between Eurasian countries and advance economic growth in the region. The project also seeks to promote investment in projects that would connect dozens of countries across Africa, Asia and Europe through the creation of infrastructure networks resembling the ancient Silk Road trading routes.
