 50,000 volunteers take part in military drills in Iran

Iranian Basij paramilitary forces have started drills in Iran. Basij is a paramilitary volunteer militia established in 1979 by order of the Islamic Revolution's leader Ayatollah Khomeini Rouhollah.


A total of 50,000 people from 25 battalions are taking part in the exercises, Trend reports.

According to the Commander of the IRGC, Mohammad Ali Jafari, the aim of the drills is to boost readiness to neutralize possible threats to the country’s national security, as well as to conduct rescue operations.
