Abashidze: visa-free regime with Russia would help our citizens solve serious problems

The Georgian prime minister’s special representative for relations with Russia, Zurab Abashidze, said that Tbilisi "will continue its efforts to break the deadlock in relations with Russia".

"Yesterday we heard a statement of the Russian Federation's intention to cancel or greatly facilitate the visa regime for the citizens of Georgia," he recalled.

"We strive to break the deadlock in relations with Russia," the diplomat noted. "There are small signs that the process is moving," TASS cited him as saying.

According to Abashidze, the abolition or simplification of the visa regime will allow many Georgian citizens "to facilitate their communication with family and friends in Russia."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his 11th annual press conference that Russia is ready to abolish the visa regime with Georgia.
