Academician Vasim Mammadaliyev passes away

Well-known Azerbaijani oriental scientist, academician Vasim Mammadaliyev, who was awarded with the Orders of Honor and the Glory, passed away.

Vasim Mammadaliyev was born on August 27, 1942 in Kurdakhani village of Baku. In 1964 he graduated from Baku State University's Faculty of Oriental Studies.

He is the author of 20 books, more than 600 scientific articles. His works have been published in more than 15 countries. Together with academician Ziya Bunyadov, he translated the Koran into the Azerbaijani language for the first time.

First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has extended condolences over Mammadaliyev's death on her Instagram account.

"A man with a very high intelligence and rare moral qualities, Vasim muallim, had undoubtedly an influence on the world of science. He has exceptional services in the development of oriental studies in Azerbaijan. A great researcher and talented teacher, Vasim Mammadaliyev was a follower of the centuries-old traditions of Azerbaijani science. The death of academician Vasim Mammadaliyev is a great loss for all of us. The memory of great scientist will always live in our hearts. May Allah rest his soul in peace," the statement reads.

The farewell ceremony will take place today at 13:00-15:00 at the Baku State University.
