Almaty attacker identified as 27-year-old recidivist


The Kazakh police has identified the man who attacked the police station in Almaty, the press service of the Kazakh Interior Ministry said.

The detainee is a 27-year-old resident of Kyzylorda region, who is also suspected of the murder of a woman past weekend.

"On July 18, 11.00 am, a man broke into the Almaty regional law enforcement department; a police officer was shot and as a result. Then, the man managed to grab the automatic weapon of the police officer," the Kazakh Interior Ministry's message says.

During the police pursuit, the criminal used the stolen weapon and shot two more police officers, AKIpress reports.

The man was identified later; he was injured and detained during the shooting with the police. During the detention, two other police officers were injured.

The criminal also had shot one civilian who died later due to the injury, the Interior Ministry added.
