Armenian media outlets report that the government has stationed internal troop units in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev said, stressing that it is a military adventure aimed at escalating the situation.
"In contrast to international law, Armenia has massed a large number of its armed forces and military equipment pieces in the occupied Azerbaijani territories," the diplomat noted.
"The deployment of Armenia’s internal troops in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan is indicative of the deplorable state of the Armenian army and of serious problems in the composition of its personnel," Hikmat Hajiyev emphasized.
"Along with this, Armenia’s populist leadership, faced with serious difficulties in solving the social and economic problems of the country, is making an attempt to manipulate public opinion and protect its image by abusing this kind of tension and military rhetoric," the spokesman stressed.
"Armenian’s deployment of internal forces in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, rather than withdrawal of its troops from there, shows that Armenia is an invader, and that Yerevan is not interested in finding a negotiated solution to the conflict," he added.
The responsibility for the current situation rests entirely with Armenia, the spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry concluded.
