Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a request to Russia to provide his country with military assistance, the head of the Russian Presidential Administration Sergey Ivanov said.
"In this respect, I want to inform you that the president of the Syrian Arab Republic has addressed the leadership of our country with a request for military assistance. So we may say that terrorism needs to be fought, efforts need to be combined, but it is still necessary to observe the norms of international law," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
