Syrian President Bashar Assad has expressed readiness to resign if the people of his country will not support him, but now, when there is a war, his resignation could be seen as a betrayal.
"When there's an election, the Syrian people will decide if they want me, I'll be happy to be president. If they don't want me, I'll be happy to leave it. I don't have any problem," RIA Novosti cited him as saying.
