Azerbaijani voters cast ballots in Moscow

230 people, or 15%, have cast their ballots in the referendum to amend Azerbaijan’s Constitution at the polling station in the country’s embassy in Russia, as of 10:30 Moscow time.

The 48th polling station of the 17th Yasamal constituency was established in the embassy and 1500 Azerbaijani citizens, permanently or temporarily residing in Russia, were registered at the station, Trend reports with reference to the embassy press service.

One more polling station was opened in the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg and another one was created at the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Yekaterinburg.

The voting in referendum on making amendments to Azerbaijan’s constitution kicked off and will wrap up at 19:00 local time (18:00 MSK).

The draft Referendum Act envisages establishing first vice-president and vice-president positions in Azerbaijan, extending the president’s term of office from five years to seven years, given the authority to the president to dissolve the Milli Majlis and declare early presidential election, removing the age limit for presidential election, decreasing the age limit from 25 to 18 for participation in the parliamentary elections.
