Changes to Kazakh Constitution to be considered at joint session of parliament's houses

The draft law “On amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan” was submitted for consideration at the joint session of parliament's upper and lower houses.

"We gathered here today to solve another historical issue for our country," the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

"As you know, in January, I have initiated a constitutional reform, in connection with which the draft law has been prepared. And for a month it was publicly discussed," he recalled.

Nazarbayev noted that more than 6000 different proposals were received and ruled the issue should be considered further in parliament, TASS reported.

“I have used my constitutional right and considering the need and importance of this work for the country and the people, I have decided the best decision would be to do this through parliament,” he said.
