The new presidential administration of the United States will ignore the peaceful process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement for about two years, a political consultant of the State Department and the Pentagon, a senior adviser to the US Center for Strategic and International Studies, former adviser to President Ronald Reagan, Edward Luttwak said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza on the sidelines of the 5th Global Forum in Baku.
A consultant to the State Department and the Pentagon explained that it is preferable for the United States not to interfere in the conflict even at a diplomatic level, rather than do it without proper preparation, which the American administration does not have today. "The worst thing that Washington could do now is to jeopardize the diplomatic process without any serious intentions on its part and confidence in what it seeks in this matter. The new administration has so many other problems now, so we should not expect an active participation of the United States for another two years. But it's better to postpone it than to jeopardize the entire peace process," Edward Litvak stressed.
He also expressed the opinion that none of the world powers is making serious efforts today in the sphere of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Changes in the US position on the South Caucasus as a whole are not yet expected, a senior adviser to the Center for Strategic and International Studies added. "Azerbaijan is a good member of the international community, striving to promote progressive politics. There is no innovation in the US foreign policy towards Azerbaijan. We think that it would be wonderful if a solution to the conflict with Armenia was found. Besides, this there is an understanding that Azerbaijan is an actively progressing country," Edward Luttwak concluded.
