Erdogan: Turkey and Japan may act as mediators between U.S. and Iran

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he is willing to mediate between the United States and Iran to ease tensions over Iran's nuclear program.

Speaking to Turkish journalists during a visit to China, Erdogan said he had discussed the issue of a possible mediation with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the sidelines of a G-20 meeting. His comments were published in the Sabah newspaper.

The Turkish leader said that Abe asked him whether Turkey and Japan could act together, to which Erdogan responded that he would be willing to meet with Iran's leaders, the 
AP reported.
