Erdogan: Turkey closes chapter of IMF credits

Turkey does not intend to borrow loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) anymore, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"We have closed the chapter of the IMF credits in order not to open it anymore," the Turkish leader said yesterday addressing the activists of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party in the town of Kizilcahamam.

The Turkish president's statement comes against the backdrop of escalation of tensions between Ankara and Washington, including over the case of US pastor Andrew Brunson, who was detained in Turkey in 2016. The United States responded to his detention by the imposition of sanctions against Turkish Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul and Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, accusing them of human rights violations, Sputnik recalls.
