FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup opens in Baku

The FIG Artistic Gymnastics Individual Apparatus World Cup started in Baku at the National Gymnastics Arena. It is held in the capital of Azerbaijan for the second time.

In total, 85 men and 35 women from 23 countries, including Olympic champions Eleftherios Petrounias (Greece), Krisztián Berki (Hungary), Olympic silver medalist Philip Ude (Croatia), European champion Alexander Shatilov (Israel), three-time Olympic champion Catalina Ponor (Romania) and Olympic gold medalist Oksana Chusovitina (Uzbekistan).

The qualifications will be held today and tomorrow. The qualifications in men’s floor exercises, as well as exercises in parallel bars and rings will take place today at 12:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time) and 17:00 (16:00 Moscow time). Women will be qualifying for the finals by performing exercises in vault and uneven bars. The official opening of the ceremony of the Cup will start at 16:30 (15:30 Moscow time). 

The apparatus finals will be held in the last two days of the Cup. In total, athletes will compete for 10 medal sets. Men will compete for 6 medal sets, while women will define the winners in 4 apparatus in accordance with the Code of Points for the new Olympic cycle that enacted in 2017.

In the men’s artistic gymnastics competitions, Azerbaijan will be represented by Bence Talas and Murad Agharzayev, while Marina Nekrasova and Mariia Smirnova will represent the country in women’s vault, Yulia Inshina and Ekaterina Tishkova - on parallel bars.
