The turn of year, according to the Iranian calendar, falls on March 21 which also marks the beginning of spring in the country.

The fire festival, a 4,000-year Persian tradition, is celebrated by Iranians on the eve of the last Wednesday before Nowruz (the Iranian new year).

On yesterday evening, Iranians celebrated the fire festival by jumping over bonfires and using firecrackers in public places, Xinhua reported.

The rites for Iranians have the significance of the farewell to the old year and a prelude to the new year.
