First residents return to Khojaly

Residents began returning to the city of Khojaly on Azerbaijan's Independence Day. The day before, 20 families returned to their hometown of Khojaly, today another 24 families are moving back. People are returning to their homes after 32 years. Ilham Aliyev toured the city together with the residents and got acquainted with the master plan of Khojaly.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and their daughter Arzu Aliyeva met with residents who relocated to the city of Khojaly on May 28.

President Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva toured the city of Khojaly with the residents, familiarizing themselves with the developments and the master plan of the city.

The head of state recalled that Khojaly has been restored in just 8 months.

"Three months ago, on February 26, a tragic day for all of us, we laid the foundation of the Memorial Complex in Khojaly. Today, the residents of Khojaly are returning," Ilham Aliyev said.

Today, another group of former internally displaced persons was sent to the city of Khojaly from the Garadagh district of Baku.

At this stage, another 24 families or 88 people moved to the Khojaly .

Until today, a permanent settlement in the city of Fuzuli has been provided for 44 families or 169 people.

In mid -May, the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons reported that 50 families are expected to be relocated to Khojaly in the near future.
