The chief engineer of SOCAR’s Azneft production association, Balamirza Aliragimov, said that the fire has weakened, but the firefighting operation is continuing.
The foreign experts managed to get to the platform and assess the situation on the spot. They will decide on further areas of work.
"As of 16:00 (15:00 MSK), none of the 23 Azerbaijani oil workers who went missing after the fire at the Guneshli offshore field have been found. The ministry of emergency situations will make a decision regarding continuation of the search by helicopters in bad weather conditions. Depending on the weather conditions, the search by ships will be suspended and resumed as soon as possible," Trend cited Aliragimov as saying.
The are no oil spills or other environmental problems on the territory of the field, he said. “In accordance with the mechanism at work in SOCAR, all construction, repair and installation work stops in case of a storm warning. So no work was carried out at the platform on the day of the accident," he noted.
