Today Georgian Orthodox Christians are celebrating Christmas: services were held in all Orthodox temples of the country.
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II delivered a Christmas service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi. The service was attended by thousands of parishioners, including representatives of the Georgian government and political circles.
On Christmas night, the believers place candles next to their windows. The tradition was begun at the initiative of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and aims to lighten the way of the Blessed Virgin Mary and baby Jesus Christ to homes and hearts of Christians.
The Tbilisi metro was open until 04:00 local time on the Christmas night, TASS reports.
