The Georgian Military Highway, the only highway connecting Georgia and Russia, was completely repaired after a summer landslide, however, the round-the-clock operation is impossible in the near future, the official representative of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Karlo Lekveishvili, told Vestnik Kavkaza.
"The damaged section of the road is currently working without any restrictions, all the difficulties were solved. The road is operating and anyone can visit Georgia using this route," Lekveishvili said in the first place.
However, despite the completion of repair works, the round-the-clock operation of the road is impossible now. "Due to bad weather conditions the road will operate from 6:00 to 20:00 pm local time. The round-the-clock operation is impossible due to climatic conditions in the region. Considering the fact that it is a mountainous region, the temporary restrictions make sense to provide security. We are in contact with the Ministry of Environment and the operation of the Georgian Military road also depends its decisions," the representative of the Roads Department warned.
Karlo Lekveishvili announced the start of the preparation of the Georgian Military Road for winter. "The Georgian Department of Highways always works effectively in winter conditions, ensuring the functioning of the roads. We are preparing to clear snow from the road using specialized equipment, which will work around the clock in the winter," he said.
"Every time a person plans to visit Georgia, he can check online status and operating mode of Georgian roadsю I want to emphasize that we are very grateful that tourists and other categories of arriving foreigners use our roads," the official representative of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia concluded.
