Ilham Aliyev meets with Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with the Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Klaus Schwab, in Davos yesterday.

Ilham Aliyev thanked Klaus Schwab for inviting him to the World Economic Forum again and emphasized fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Economic Forum. He noted that this cooperation was fully compatible with the Davos Forum's objectives to improve situation in world countries.

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of geographical location of Azerbaijan, saying this factor paved the way for successful realization of transnational projects, including North-South, East-West transport and other projects. He highlighted the development processes taking place in the country across the last years. The head of state said Azerbaijan entered a new development stage, adding that impressive measures had been taken to diversify the country's economy and exports.

Ilham Aliyev said meetings held within the framework of the Davos Forum paved the way for realization of a number of important projects. Azerbaijan had hosted high-profile international events over the last years, including the first European Games in Baku. President Ilham Aliyev described the visit of Pope Francis to Azerbaijan as recognition of high tolerance in the country.

Klaus Schwab, in turn, highlighted fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Economic Forum, adding that President Ilham Aliyev's participation in this Forum contributed to bilateral cooperation. Schwab said he saw strong development during his visit to Azerbaijan, and spoke of the beauty of Baku. He said security and stability played a significant role in Azerbaijan's development. 

Klaus Schwab said great works had been done in Azerbaijan over the last years, adding that Baku hosted significant international events. The Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum highly appreciated tolerance in Azerbaijan, AzerTAc reported.

Azerbaijani President also held meetings with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, the Prime Minister, Minister of State of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, the Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Khalid Al-Falih, the Belarusian President Petro Poroshenko, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Borge Brende, the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Palantir Technologies, Alex Karp, and the Executive Chairman of CISCO, John Chambers.

As well as with the Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Holcim Eric Olsen, the founder and managing director of VPS Healthcare of the United Arab Emirates Shamsheer Vayalil, the Chief Executive Officer of BP Robert Dudley and the global managing partner of McKinsey Dominic Barton.
