The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan reported that unidentified persons shot dead the imam of the local mosque in the village of Novy Kurush in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan.
"Criminals attacked a cleric as he was on his way from the mosque after morning prayers," Interfax reports.
The police have started an investigation into the case.
