Japan downs Germany 2-1 at 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

Japan’s national football team defeated the national squad of Germany 2-1 in their group stage encounter on Wednesday at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The match was played at the Khalifa International Stadium in the city of Al Rayyan with a reported attendance of over 42,600 spectators.

The goals were scored by Japan’s Ritsu Doan (in the 75th minute of the match) and Takuma Asano (in the 83rd minute of the match).

Germany’s midfielder Ilkay Guendogan scored the lone goal for his team during the match, netting a ball on a penalty kick in the 33rd-minute of the game.

This was Japan’s first ever win over Germany. The two teams previously clashed on two separate occasions, namely in 2004, with Germany winning 3-0, and in 2006, when both teams enjoyed a 2-2 draw.

Japan and Germany play in Group E alongside Spain and Costa Rica, which are scheduled to play against each other later today.
