Johannes Hahn: dialogue on migration and anti-terrorist activities is necessary with Turkey

The European Union hopes to continue a high-level dialogue with Turkey on energy, migration and the fight against terrorism, despite the increased tension in relations, the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Khan said.

"We will discuss different areas. For example, we will talk about a special high-level dialogue on energy, migration, as well as combating terrorism, we will urge to continue them," he stressed.

According to the European Commissioner, sometimes negotiations with Ankara are tough. "We do not strive for this, but we are also people, so we cannot avoid an emotional reaction," Khan noted.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and EU Minister Ömer Çelik will represent the Turkish side in talks with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn in Brussels on July 25.

The talks come after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held "fruitful" meetings with EU leaders, including EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels during the summit of NATO leaders in May.
