Kadyrov opposes unification of Chechnya and Ingushetia

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that he opposes unification of the Chechen Republic and Ingushetia. He added that he had agreed with the head of the neighboring North Caucasus republic, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, to fight against the ideology of Wahhabism.

"I will never agree with provocative conversations about my desire to merge Chechnya and Ingushetia. And I can swear that no one is against the merger as I am," he posted on his Instagram page. According to him, the Chechens and the Ingush are fraternal peoples, but "each Republic has their own problems and challenges," the head of the republic believes.

He also noted that these issues were discussed with the mufti of Chechnya Salah Mezhiev at a meeting with imams of districts and cities of Chechnya.
