Kazakhstan took part in the UN Security Council meeting on January 3 as a non-permanent member as Council convened its first session in the year 2017, Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Barlybay Sadykov, led the Kazakh delegation to its historic first ever UN Security Council session, which adopted a work program for January 2017.
In his remark delivered at the meeting with the UNSC members, Sadykov told about Kazakh foreign policy's priorities that include efforts aimed at non-proliferation, conflict resolution and combating international terrorism, AKIpress reports.
On January 4, the UN Security Council had a closed meeting on the situation in Syria (situation with chemical weapons in the country) and Iraq (humanitarian issues). On January 10, the Council will hold a ministerial-level open debate on “conflict prevention and sustaining peace”. On January 17, the Council will hold its quarterly open debate on the Middle East, with a focus on the situation in Palestine.
