Kazakhstan names Russia’s Sibur, Tatneft as partners in petrochemical industry

The Energy Ministry of Kazakhstan is considering Russian companies Sibur and Tatneft as strategic partners on implementation of projects in the petrochemical industry, Minister Bolat Akchulakov said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

"The share of import of petrochemical products remains high. It is planned to launch a polypropylene production plant with the capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year this year to solve the issue. The plant plans to produce around 110,00 tonnes of polypropylene already this year," he said.

The implementation of large projects on the production of terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate with the capacity of around 1 mln tonnes per year, of polyethylene - 1.25 mln tonnes of year, and of butadiene with the capacity of 186,000 tonnes per year is at the initial stage, the minister said. "On the abovementioned projects Sibur and Tatneft have been defined as strategic partners," he added.
