Kazakhstan officially joins WTO

The official ceremony marking Kazakhstan joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) will take place in Geneva on Monday in the presence of Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Kazakhstan’s negotiations with the WTO ended on June 10th after almost 20 years. "This is a historic event for us. All the leading global economies have recognized Kazakhstan as a country with a favorable investment climate that pursues its trade policy in compliance with the norms of international law," the president said.

In the next six months Kazakhstan’s parliament will have to ratify the documents that Kazakhstan is going to sign in Geneva on Monday. The decision on Kazakhstan’s accession to the WTO will take effect within 30 days of Kazakhstan notifying the WTO of the ratification, TASS reports.
