Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will be held on October 15, 2017, the relevant changes in the law on elections were signed by the country's President Almazbek Atambayev.
According to the amendments, the forthcoming presidential elections will have to be held in Kyrgyzstan on the third Sunday of October, not on the third Sunday of November due to the fact that under the Constitution, the six-year term of office of the current president of the Republic ends on December 1 this year. And all election procedures, including a probable second round and inauguration ceremony, should be completed before December.
The bill also proposes to increase the electoral threshold from 7 to 9%. In addition, the electoral deposit for presidential candidates will be increased tenfold from 100 thousand to 1 million soms (from $1.4 thousand to $14.7 thousand), RIA Novosti reports.
